It was once thought that there were only five Serpentine tribes, the Constrictai, the Venomari, the Hypnobrai, the Fangpyre and the Anacondrai.  They were wrong.

How the Serpentine where bornWhen the Great Spinjitzu Master created snakes, it was mysterious how these snakes could turn more humanlike. It was because of some foolish scientist, who wanted to test if human genes could alter animals to become more humanlike.

It worked.

The Serpentine were born. The scientist had tested them onto seven snakes. Each one turned into one of the Serpentine tribes and one into the Great Devourer. The very last one seemed unsuccessful, so they left them in the lab while they tested the other snake's abilities.
